Today, we have the chance to speak to fashionTrade’s first female developer: Dinara. Born and bred in Russia, Dinara studied Computer Engineering in St Petersburg before working as a QA (Quality Assurance) Engineer for Yandex (the largest search engine in Russia) in the same city. Dinara took the bold step to move to Amsterdam with her husband Andrey and then began her journey with us as a Front-End Developer.
Dinara, front-end-developer at fashionTrade
Hi Dinara! So, what does a regular day at fashionTrade look like for you?
Like most people, I start the day with a cup of coffee. After that, I work on my to-do list for the day and join our daily team stand-up. During this quick meeting, I update my coworkers about my tasks so we are all aligned and working in the same direction. But except for that, every day is completely different at fashionTrade: there are plenty of things for me to work on, so I never get bored.
What are the tasks that stimulate you the most?
My favourite part of the job is when I work on a new functionality from scratch.
It is a complex process where I ask myself a lot of questions. In which context will the functionality be used? What is the best way to implement it? What should the code structure be? We answer these questions as a team, together with the other developers and the Product and Design teams.
This is typically what we did when I started working on the Brand Showroom functionality. It looks simple from the outside but designing the whole workflow from beginning to end was not an easy task. It was a team effort and I can say that I am very happy with the result.
Tell us something you particularly enjoy about fashionTrade, that you never had in your previous job(s)?
There are two things I particularly like here. First, I have the chance to work on a new product from the start, instead of jumping in the middle of its life-cycle. Second, fashiontrade has been created by a team of successful experts coming from the fashion industry. We have a clear vision of what we want to be and where we want to go and this motivates me in my daily job.
What is your favourite digital tool?
Spotify! What could be better than having (almost) all music in the world available on your computer for a moderate monthly fee?
What is your favourite focus song?
It changes all the time as I like many different kinds of music. Today it can be Tchaikovsky and tomorrow it could be Armin van Buuren, I never know!
What is your favourite fashionTrade feature?
The one that I’ve created of course! I’m joking. It’s really hard to say. We are building a whole house, so it feels weird to say which room I prefer. I like the fact that the whole project is moving in the right direction. Plus it’s an ever-evolving project, as we always have a lot of ideas to improve it.
Tell us one unexpected thing your colleagues don’t know about you?
There is nothing unexpected about me, I think. Just ask me: I am an open book.
Do you have a favourite quote?
Yes, by Nelson Mandela, an incredible man.
If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his language, that goes to his heart.’ This might be the thing that motivates me the most right now.
What is your next holiday destination?
Austria, for a skiing and hiking trip. I can’t wait!
Shout out to Dinara for taking the time to sit with us – we look forward to sharing the next feature she builds with you soon!
